hi pink tarha!!!..i need your help URGENT!!!..
my name is missy and i have a friend who will have her bridal shower next week..we (her friends) decided to designate things (like two were assigned with food etc..)..
i want to surprise her by providing the bridal souvenirs for the guests and i dont have any idea what to buy..and worst where to buy??..
it doesnt need to be expensive because honestly i also dont have money..haha..
please help me!!!..thanks much..

The Pink Tarha said...

Hi Missy! Wow, with the use of exclamation points in your comment, this really appears as URGENT. Haha. Thanks for dropping by our blog.

Re: your question on bridal shower souvenirs, honestly, we haven't been to one (as far as we can think of) but it would be interesting to give away underwear to the ladies, not just the bride. Hahaha. La Senza and La Vie en Rose have them on sale. Also lip glosses or lip balms. H&M has on sale glosses now for as low as 3 riyals. Oh, and earrings too (around SR10 each). For other items like small figurines or mugs or home stuff, try visiting Riyalin. There's one near Peking Restaurant in the Military Hospital area and one in Dabab St. They sell a lot of stuff that we can't think of anything specific to buy. Go there and you'll see lots of things that can serve as souvenirs. Camel Corner has cool souvenirs that are Saudi Arabia-themed. Carpet bookmarks, mirrors, and shawls might work.

Those are our suggestions. Hope you find the souvenirs that you are looking for. Have fun in the bridal shower. :)

Hi Pink Tarha!..... I find your website helpful, fun and interesting...just want to know if you know a snow globe supplier in riyadh?....

The Pink Tarha said...

Hi! We don't know of any show globe supplier in Riyadh. However, you might want to get in touch with Mr. Isam of Camel Corner. He sells snow globe souvenirs so you might want to inquire re: suppliers. Thanks for reading The Pink Tarha!

Details of Camel Corner here: http://www.thepinktarha.com/2012/08/camel-corner.html

Hi! It was nice that I came across your blog. I understand that you're in Riyadh..but can you please do an article about TAIF? I'm curious about that place. Thanks a lot :)

The Pink Tarha said...

Hi Eliezza! Unfortunately, we haven't been to Taif so we don't want to write about something we haven't seen personally. Maybe one day, we'll travel to Taif. But for now, we're stuck in Riyadh. :P

Abbie said...

Hi, pink tarha!

I came about ur blog while searching about pinoys in riyadh. My husband just arrived there one month ago. We were wondering, perhaps you could advise where he could buy food supplements or vitamins for his health as it is more expensive sending one from here to there. Thanks for your time. More power :D

The Pink Tarha said...

@Abbie: He can check out Whites Pharmacy which we wrote about here: http://www.thepinktarha.com/2012/10/whats-in-whites-12.html. Try GNC also. It has branches in Granada Mall, Tamimi in Thalateen, and inside Panda in Takhasussi. Most pharmacies with lots of branches all over Riyadh like Al-Saggaf have multivitamins. Just ask the pharmacists for recommendation. :) Hope your husband finds supplements and vitamins that are suitable for him. Thank you for dropping by The Pink Tarha. :)

Hi Pink Tarha,

I would like to ask if I will be permitted to bring my multi vitamins and other health self-use products in riyadh? I'm afraid that it will cause issues in the airport.

Thank you.

The Pink Tarha said...

@Anonymous: We haven't used dry ice here in Riyadh so we don't know where to get it. :/

@Frances: Yes, you can bring multi-vitamins. For other medicines that you need to take for self-medication, just bring your doctor's prescription just to be sure.

i found it very intriguing...well done
i am 24 years old and i lived all my life with my family in jeddah...i will be moving to riyadh alone soon for work and i find it very intimidating cuz thats the first time for me to visit it, let alone live and work alone!!anyway i hope i can depend on u guys for a lil advice and some help once i move in...ill just be needing info about places and stuff....thx in advance

The Pink Tarha said...

@Renu: For the L'Oreal kit, you can try visiting the huge hypermarkets in Riyadh like Hyper Panda, Tamimi, or Lulu. If you still can't find it there, try Whites Pharmacy. If you can't really find it in those stores, try seeking alternatives to your hair products in Nazih Trading Inc. It has branches along Olaya Road and in Hayat and Al-Qasr malls. :)

As for the wooden folding screens or room dividers, try the Home Centre of Centrepoint. There's a huge branch of it in King Abdullah Road and in Exit 10. :)

The Pink Tarha said...

@G.G: Thank you for reading The Pink Tarha! You can always message or email us for your questions and we'll try our best to answer them. Good luck on your move to Riyadh and we wish you the best. :) - thepinktarha@gmail.com

Hello, I would like to ask you if you know any centers or people that offer Cross-Stitching lessons in Riyadh ().. Thanks in advance =)

Anonymous said...

Hello Pink Tarha ladies. I just came across your blog two days ago and I genuinely like it! Although I've lived in Riyadh before (living elsewhere for a while now) I have not went around much or knew many people. Glad I can find a resourceful site like yours. Keep it up! =]

Also, I have a question: Do you happen to know an affordable dental/orthodontics place/practitioners? Thanks in advance!

Anonymous said...

Hello Pink Tarha ladies. Great site.
Do you happen to know any hair salons that specialize in or know how to work with black hair? No need for extensions or wigs.

Thanks in advance!

The Pink Tarha said...

@Anonymous 8:56PM: Sorry, we don't any cross-stitching lessons here in Riyadh.

@Anonymous 8:17AM: We're not sure about "affordable" dental centers because most fees are covered by our insurance. But if you're on the lookout for Filipino dentists, try Dr. Delfin Federico in Mawiya Clinic in the Kuwaiti Housing in Dabab Street or Dra. Josephine in Fahd Dental 3 in Takhasussi Street.

@Anonymous 9:39PM: Are you going to have your hair colored? Four Nail Spa and Salon in the Amenities Center of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital has a hair color specialist. :)

The Pink Tarha said...

@Anonymous 11:01AM: We are not experts on visa matters. The entry/post on How To Go to the UAE is based on our experience. Based on what we know (and what we know is not the exact rule), nurses can be given a visa-on-arrival.

The Pink Tarha said...

Hi Gifty, sorry but we are not a store.

The Pink Tarha said...

@Anonymous 5:39PM: Hello! Thanks for visiting The Pink Tarha blog. I'm not sure if you are eligible but a "draftsman" as your profession in your iqama might not be considered as a high profession, thus you cannot get a visa-on-arrival. If your iqama states that you are a "civil engineer", you might have a better chance in getting it. But this is only our opinion. For specific answers, you can ask the UAE Embassy or any travel agency.

I am a Saudi resident ( Proffefion on passport is civil engineer) holding Saudi Iqama with my family
What as if I enter UAE with my family and go out of the country leaving my family there for two weeks

Q2 Do I have to go again to take them back to Saudi or they can come out of uae to saudi themselves

The Pink Tarha said...

Hi Mudassir, what is your nationality? Anyway, if you go to the UAE with your family, our understanding is that you have to leave the country with them because the immigration officers will still check your visas before you leave.

You can visit this site for more details: http://www.emirates.org/visa.html

The Pink Tarha said...

@Anonymous 9:42AM: Unfortunately, we do not work for the UAE embassy or any accredited travel agency. We do not know what professions are eligible for visa-on-arrival except for high professions like doctors and engineers. Kindly call the UAE Embassy or Emirates Holidays office for your questions.

Also, we are ladies, not "sirs"... :) Thank you. :)

The Pink Tarha said...

@Anonymous 10:50PM: If you are a dependent of your husband, he should travel with you to be able to secure a visa-on-arrival. If he can't travel with you, you need to get a tourist/visit visa first from any authorized travel agency in the UAE.

For more information, kindly visit our entry on how to visit the UAE from KSA (or you can also contact Emirates Holidays):

@Julian: Hello! Thanks for reading The Pink Tarha. Party supplies can usually be found and rented in Good Ship Lollipop in Tahlia Street. It's the only thing that's on top of my mind right now. Also, if you have your food catered, the caterer usually brings tables and chairs if you request them to.

Hello Urgent Help Needed !!!,

I have been offered a job in Riyadh as web designer on a salary of 2500SAR(Basic)+ accomodation (by company)+Transportation(company provided)+Medical(Company provided). Can i be able to survive on this salary? can i bring my wife and live with her comfortably in this salary? will i be able to afford a car (used car on finance/Installments) for myself? I have a decent lifestyle.

Hope to get your answers soon and please comment the answers.

Thanks

The Pink Tarha said...

Hello Anonymous 10:19PM: Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you will be able to live comfortably in this salary if you're not really into other stuff. Will you be given a family status? 2,500 as basic is a bit of a stretch when you're bringing your wife also. But you can manage if you're really thrifty.

Anonymous said...

Hi,

My name is sam. Thanks for replying my question about living on 2500SAR in riyadh. I live a decent life and not into any other stuff. Just bit of shopping sometimes and i crave for good food. Yes i will be given a family status.Only one thing remained unanswered, will i be able to afford a car (used car or new car on finance/Installments) for myself? Honda Civic is my preferred choice.

Thanks...

The Pink Tarha said...

Hi Sam! A used car will probably be possible but a new car will be impossible to get, even in installment, with that salary. Banks will not approve it. A minimum of SR3,500 salary is needed to secure a car loan.

Anonymous said...

Hi Sam here again...Thanks alot for that fast reply.....just one more thing, will i be able to get that used car on installments? And about the license, i don't have my home country license, will i be able to get saudi license?...hope i am not bothering you...sorry for taking so much of your time and bothering you...thanks again for your reply...i love your site...Thanks alot

Hi there! I just wanna ask.. I'm applying kasi as a nurse there in KSA.. Pero in your opinion, saan kaya mas magandang tumira and mag-work? Dammam, Riyadh, or Jeddah? Hehe. Thanks a lot!! :)

The Pink Tarha said...

@Sam: Sorry for the very late reply. I wasn't able to see this comment immediately. It depends on where you buy the used car but most would probably require the full payment immediately but don't quote us on it (we don't drive so we're not the best ones to ask about cars, haha!). You can get a driver's license here and when you do, arm yourself with patience. Thanks for reading the blog! :)

@Anonymous 5:20PM: You can try the Korean Store we featured in the blog. You can use the Search tab in the sidebar. Thanks.

@Huda's Arts: Kindly get in touch with Camel Corner at www.facebook.com/camelcorner.

@Anonymous 6:21PM: It depends on where you think you can adjust well. Dammam is like the laidback province among the three while Riyadh is the city with stricter rules. Jeddah is both; it's a city with a vibe of rural life. I'm pretty biased because I like Riyadh best but Jeddah is the most popular choice. :)

The Pink Tarha said...

@pinknurse: No idea where Al Buhaira is exactly so not sure what salon to suggest and recommend that is near your place. You can go to Red Carpet or Heads Up near the Military Hospital if you want (Mushtashfa Askari in Arabic). As for your other questions, yes, you can visit those places. However, I suggest that you wait for your iqama to be issued because with the labor situation in the Kingdom nowadays, police and labor officers checking randomly do not accept a photocopy of passport. You need to show your iqama.

Hi Pink tarha... It's nice to know there is a website for women here in saudi arabia.. Maybe you could help me to find any filipino dressmaker that can make a wedding dress for me. I will have my church wedding in the Philippines next year and I want to have the perfect dress and I know fabrics here in Saudi arabia are cheaper compared to our country.. Any suggestions please... God bless

Hey PT! :)
I have been on the search for Baby Lips by Maybelline. I tried the whites pharmacy near exit 10 (Abdullah St.) and I could only find one colour :/
Do you know any stores that have a good range of them (in terms of colour)? :)

Dear readers, so sorry for not being able to answer your questions immediately. I’m trying my best to keep up.

@Catherine: There are a lot of Filipino designers here in Riyadh. If you go to Olaya and visit the dress shops there, you’ll surely find one. However, we do not know anyone personally so we can’t recommend. Good luck on your wedding and congratulations!

@Anonymous 2:17AM: Try the other Whites Pharmacy or the MAybelline kiosks at leading hypermarkets like Panda and Danube.
