It's that special day again! The day we give thanks and acknowledge all the support, love and effort our mothers have made to make sure that we grow up in the best environment, knowing that we are well loved. From the bottom of our pink hearts, we'd like to say: Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers out there!
This year, we'll be dishing out our gift ideas for our own moms... and if you're in a bind trying to find a gift for your mom, worry not, for we've prepared a list of gift ideas for that wonderful woman in your life!
Sampaguita Pride: When we were kids, my dad use to take us to Rabwa to buy potted roses for Mother's Day. My mom has a green thumb and she loves to arrange and rearrange our living room, like every two weeks *LOL*... So I was planning on getting her a few vases from IKEA to spruce up our living room. But a few days ago, I heard her say that she wanted a summer hat that she could wear during her vacation. So I scoured RG for a decent sized straw hat. Something not too small, or too large, or too floppy... Oh di'ba, nakikinig pala ako, mama. hehe... Happy Mother's Day! I love you.
E wants to give her mom an iPad2 |
Eyecandy: "My mom is a Mac minion. Anything branded "Apple", she knows and she has. Well, most of them. Our whole family was technologically raised under the Apple sign and we are rendered clueless when unknowingly confronted with a PC unit. Lucky for my mom and I, our jobs entail the use of Mac computers as well (she's a graphic designer and I work with layout) and I don't see us converting from our "tech-religion" anytime soon (you know what they say, once you Mac, you never go back). Suffice to say, my mom is a a Gadget Goddess. I shamefully admit that she's more up to date about my computer and other gadgets better than I can. And for this Mother's Day, I am as sure as a button that she would want either an iPad2 or an iPhone4 (she recently lost her old iPhone 3Gs). When we tease my mom about her addiction to gadgets and technology, she tells us the story of her childhood, where she was so fascinated with the idea of a portable radio - and how she can listen to music and news by taking the device anywhere in the house. And she also grumbles that, "Kayo talaga...Ito na nga lang ang kaligayahan ko eh...." - LOL Mamita! Happy Mother's Day!"
Sundrenched: I'd love to give my mother a Netbook! My mama has always been a simple, gracious, and humble woman. She leads a very simple life that she doesn't have an interest in technology. Give her a cellphone and she's already fine but due to the recent influx of gadgets in the house, she's been hinting she wants a Netbook to chat with our relatives in the States. Wow, chatting! That's something new. And I'm all for it! Haha! Any netbook is fine since she'll just begin her journey to the world of the Internet but seriously, it should be Toshiba, in keeping with the house's rule for laptops. Hahaha. You know I will give you the world, ma. Anything for you! It's just that I cannot afford it just yet (lol). I'll just give you the online world for now. Happy mother's day! Thank you for everything. I looove you! :)
Shoegarfreeruby: I would give her an LV bag. When I was a kid, my mom had a mini collection of replica LV bags. I know that it's not because she could not afford to buy the real thing, but rather it was just because her joys were simple. She would not buy anything that would seem 'too much' for herself, but would sacrifice instead for our sake and welfare. That's how she was, and would always remain in my heart. I know that having the 'real thing' would really make her really happy even if she did not ask for it.
Gifts for YOUR mom.
And as promised, here are some gift ideas to help you pick out the best gift for mother's day! But don't worry, these are just ideas. If time and distance hinders you from giving gifts at the moment, we're sure your mom would equally appreciate a call on this special day! And they can wait for the gift. Moms are patient that way. lol.
WORKING MOM
For the woman who balances motherhood and career, a whole wardrobe is the ultimate gift. We're not just suggesting boring slacks and polo shirts though. A dress is still suitable at work and this Franky dress from MNG suits the bill. A blazer with a twist is offered at H&M. We're sure your moms are always wearing that classic black heeled shoes but we suggest you get her one which shows her quirky personality like this Sweety Bird from Irregular Choice. If you're not sure of your mom's sizes (and is afraid to ask, hehe), get her some accessories like a long necklace with subtle bling (ALDO and New Look has affordable accessories), a staple watch, and the popular Cambridge satchel. To replace her notebook, you might want to get her a sleek Moleskine. Throw in a lipstick to complete her look. We heard Estee Lauder is the go-to make-up choice of the erm, "older" crowd. Lol.
HOMEMAKER
Remember our post on how not to be just a plain housewife in Riyadh? Well, here are some gift suggestions that will make your housewife mothers anything but plain. Is she into baking? Then these cute cupcake kit will delight her or jumpstart the passion if she's not into it yet. Is she into sewing? Cath Kidston makes the most beautiful, vintage-y sewing baskets (and bags too!). Is she into designing and decorating your rooms? The Domino book will give her nice ideas. For kikay moms whose stuff are over spilling, a dresser from IKEA will do the trick. She loves to read? The Nook is one expensive but worthy gift. Handmade shea butter soaps and room fragrances and sprays will give your mom a much-needed R&R in the confines of her own room.
JETSETTER
For jet-setting moms, a passport and ticket wallet from Saks will help her keep her important documents in one place. A weekend bag like this from NV Calcutta London, is a must for moms who love to go out of town over the weekends. It's a chic alternative to the brusko gym bags. Add a personalized touch by attaching monogrammed luggage tags. Don't forget to pack the Footzyrolls, in case her feet hurts from switching airline terminals and boarding gates. These shoes roll up and can be kept in your mom's bag in case of emergencies.
FASHIONISTA
If your mom is a Fashionista, you already know that she has enough clothes, bags, shoes and accessories that she should probably convert your a room into a walk in closet! If your mom loves bags, she probably switches from one bag to the other on a daily basis. We suggest giving her a bag organizer so she can move all her stuff in a jiff. She loves sunglasses? Give her a see through case so she can find the right pair without opening every case. If your mom loves shoes like our dear Shoegarfreeruby, then she'll love this space saving shoe organizer. Of course every fashionista loves to glam up and MAC's strobe cream will add a youthful glow while MAC brush sets will help her apply her makeup evenly.
So what are you waiting for? Go and greet your moms, a Happy Mother's Day!
