Substance and Style

When it comes to clothes and colors, nothing beats the basics. The Pink Tarha girls found ourselves dressed in basic pieces in neutral colors on the same day so we just have to take a picture!

It's surprising that we're wearing whites, browns, grays, and blacks while it's summer (gettin' hot in here already, yes?) Oh well, you know summer in the Kingdom is different! While the beachcombers in the Philippines are mourning for this year's gone too soon summer, we, fabulous people of Riyadh, don't even have to wish for sunshine!

Anyway, here's our neutral office ensembles for Collage Week!

Dressed to work it!

The whole corporate look for work doesn't really suit our tastes that much. You'll rarely see us wearing corporate jackets or black suits even though it is required. That is too serious for us sassy girls. What we do is play up with our basic pieces to create smart casual looks that are not too intimidatingly dressed to kill.

C'mon, we can be conservative with our basics and neutrals without sacrificing substance and style.

Work it, girls!

Again, The Name's Tony Roma('s)

Eyecandy, in one of the early entries in this blog, has given you a slice of steaks and other good food from Tony Roma's, one of the casual dining chain restaurants in the world. Let me give you another round of their delicious (eherm, stroke-inducing) offerings.

The Hayat Mall branch

This restaurant, along with Applebee's, Chili's, and TGIF, is made for special occassions and once or twice a month gathering with family and friends only. Wag naman masyadong karirin ang pagkain dito. :P

Here are some of Tony Roma's signature offerings:

Bread and herbed butter, free

Bahama Mama and Pina Mango Swirl, SR15 each
You might want to order a bottle of water with these. They're too sweet. I stirred in half a glass of water before I liked what I was drinking.

Ribeye steak cooked well-done, SR74
(with mashed potato and corn on the cob)

Sirloin steak cooked well-done, SR62
(with shredded corn and baked potato)
A bit too tough, but manageable. The corn with lots of butter is always good. Steak here is drizzled with TR's signature peppered gravy and Worcestershire sauce.

Shrimp Scampi Pasta, SR45
This lacks seasoning. The juicy shrimp is the only saving grace of this dish.

Apple Crisp Ala Mode, SR28
I love the vanilla ice cream on top, period.

Of course, don't forget to try their ribs which Tony Roma's is best known for. Careful though, the bones of it are so huge it can be used as a weapon of mass destruction. :P We also love the spinach artichoke dip served with warm tortilla chips, sour cream, and salsa, and their onion loaf.

Tony Roma's has earned a spot in our best restos in Riyadh so far. It doesn't also look too intimidating, compared to Tony Roma's in the Philippines which you can find in Glorietta 4, Makati City. I haven't eaten in that place like ever, while I've eaten in TR Hayat Mall (near the Danube Supermarket and Krispy Kreme) several times already. I'm sure you've also had your fair share of TR moments.

Another branch is located along Olaya Street near Pizza Company and Pans. It's a walking distance from Jarir Bookstore and Zara.

We Love No Matter What

Para ito sa mga pusong kasalukuyang nagluluksa at nagsasaya.

It was yesterday when I witnessed a real break-up. It’s a very sad thing to see how lives who have cleaved have now decided to go on separate ways. Pain may replace love for a while but not the wonderful memories shared. We may hurt but it will only be temporary, because eventually wounds heal, hearts let go and lives move on.

For hearts who are now hurting, may you find comfort in these words from 2 Corinthians 4:
We are hedged in (pressed) on every side [troubled and oppressed in every way], but not cramped or crushed; we suffer embarrassments and are perplexed and unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair; 9We are pursued (persecuted and hard driven), but not deserted [to stand alone]; we are struck down to the ground, but never struck out and destroyed.
On the other hand, we celebrate love that is about to begin. Kung may pintuang nagsasara, meron din naming nagbubukas. As I’ve heard, this is how the world’s equilibrium work. Love at its freshest and purest is such a great experience, even if there is no guarantee that there will never be pain in the end. Enjoy it to the fullest!
Ipagdiwang ang pag-ibig, gaano man kasaya o kasakit.

Seeing Red

The Pink Tarha Girls have barely taken a break from the end and start of the year sale and here comes the...

Gano'n ba talaga kabilis ang panahon?! Darn! Just when we thought we'll finally have the chance to save up for the inaabangang mid-year sale this coming June and July, eto namang umeeksena 'tong mid-season sale! Gah! Who are we to refuse?! Sigh.

My fave store for this sale is Topshop. I'm sure shoegarfreeruby, who I bumped into at the Topshop branch in Granada Center, will agree. Topshop is offering 50% off on their spring items... and it's also buy 1 get 1 free! San ka pa?! Even my Scrooge of an older brother managed to score himself two nice pair of pants from Topman for SR110 total.

Will it get any better than this? You bet!

(Eyecandy, you know that we feel for you. Lotsa love from us.)

For My Pet, BuBu

Owning a pet is one of life's little treasures. Growing up in Riyadh and being an only child for the first ten years of my life, the pets I've had throughout my childhood have been my precious companions. There can never be a dull moment when another creature is amidst. Whether you are irritated with having to constantly feed or clean them, talking to them as if they can talk back, or simply observing their movements--these actions are a refreshing respite over a boring day.

I am writing this in memory of a loving, cheerful pet that I have lost recently. "Bush" or "BuBu" as I call him, was taken from our house last Tuesday. He stays at our porch, where his dog house is and its a few meters away from the gate of our house. If you live in Saudi Arabia, you will notice that all residential areas here don high walls and the idea of a "white-picket-fence" look-of-a-neighborhood is a remote idea here. According to my neighbor who witnessed the abduction (yes, I am calling it that), a group of Arab kids climbed over our wall and dragged Bush over the wall by pulling his leash. I am assuming that they are afraid that they'd bite him so they resorted to tugging him to their will. I can just imagine him shrieking in pain as they pulled him over that wall. When the kids finally managed to get him over the wall, they tied the leash to their bikes and rode off, dragging Bubu behind. My neighbor tried to run after them, but since they were in bikes, it was somewhat a lost cause. It is very painful for me to recount this story, but I want the world to know how ignorant and cruel these Arab youngsters are. And how their lack of compassion and education reflects poorly on their culture. I have lost pets before, but never in this disgusting and cruel manner.

I don't know if Bubu is still alive, or what. I am drawn to tears just imagining what they could have done to him, knowing the attitudes of these kids. I feel responsible that day because as I was leaving the house that morning, he seemed adamant to stay behind our second gate (the one that leads directly to our house proper) but since he's not potty trained, I always have him stay on the porch whenever I leave for work. Looking back, maybe that was a sign that I should have let him stay inside the house instead. And maybe this tragedy wouldn't have happened.

The hardest part for me was coming home that night and not having my dog greet me cheerfully and excitedly as he always does. I wanted to collapse on the stairs where we used to sit and play catch. I sat there for a good five minutes, cried and said a little prayer. I miss him so much.

Bush. A Black American Terrier. I was supposed to change his name to Obama after he won but Bubu stuck. He was supposed to turn 2 this June. Please say a little prayer for him.

Norah Jones' track "Thinking of You" is dedicated to him. A wonderful creature who made me smile, who made me laugh, who I whispered my secrets to and whose energizing spirit never ceased to amaze me. I LOVE YOU BUSH! Always.

:(

Pinoy World Domination, the 2009 PEBA Way

6,770,000,000 katao sa mundo.

95,000,000 Pilipino.

Ang konti pala natin... pa'no natin sasakupin ang mundo?! Well...

83,000,000 Pilipinong nasa Pilipinas.

Filipinos Abroad - Hope of the Nation, Gift to the World
Cognizant and directly affected by the brunt of global financial crisis, Filipinos continue to anchor their hope and trust to their family members abroad as herald of better news and good tidings. Thus, reinforcing the OFWs and Filipino expats role and image as new heroes and saviors. PEBA also recognizes that Filipinos wherever they are, be it land-based, sea-based or air-based as the case maybe, are shining examples of dedication, diligence, and excellence in almost anything they do. It is not uncommon for them to be praised as assets to companies and organizations contributing to the social and economic well being of their host country. PEBA considers the more than 12m overseas Filipinos scattered abroad as gifts to make this world a better place to live.

Good luck!

Parking 101

We're curious where in the world did the drivers of these cars learn how to park. If they can't follow the simple rules of parking, we do not want to imagine how they follow the rules of traffic.

The yellow lines are made for parking properly.

This parking lot is huge but this does not give you the right to own two lanes.

We're offended for the yellow bar. It's placed there for something! You gotta respect it too, yannow.

Maybe you've seen worse parking antics, this place sure reeks of driving school nuts. So nuts they're one of the five a**holes you meet on the road. We'll introduce all five on the next Life Line.

Awards Night

Since this blog came into being last January, the Pink Tarha girls have immensely enjoyed the spot in the online world of global Pinoys. We are truly honored to be a part of the Saudi-based Pinoy bloggers community and are in awe at how much this group of online writers and fellow expats have contributed to make Filipinos known worldwide. We are also proud of all the Filipinos out there, saan mang panig ng mundo, who are continuously sharing their insights and knowledge not only to their kabayans, but to all who stumble upon their online homes.

Kahit na malayo pa ang Famas, Urian, at MMFF Awards Night, inuunahan na namin sila sa pamimigay at pagtanggap ng awards! (Taray!) Hindi na namin hahabaan pa ang aming speech. We would like to thank Nebz and Desert Aquaforce for giving us these awards:

Winner na winner!

Basically, these awards are meant to be given to bloggers who have done something for you virtually. The Blogger Award is for the blog which you visit because you like it. No need to elaborate on that. The Neno Award is a creativity award for those who love to blog thus in our opinion, inspired us to blog with fervor. The Uber Amazing Blog Award is simply for amazing blogs which make us smile and laugh, give amazing info, have amazing designs... basta AH-MAY-ZING! While the Blogger Friendship Award is given to bloggers whom we've forged camaraderie (or makes us feel we want to befriend).

As part of the Neno Award, the Pink Tarha Girls* answer the question "Why do you love blogging?"
Shoegarfreeruby says Blogging is an outlet for me. It is quite liberating to blog of random thoughts, insignificant emotions and casual experiences nobody would really care about. It opened a new door for people like me to express things i would normally keep to myself.

Eyecandy says You know that image of a man atop a mountain, screaming his lungs out for the whole breadth of earth to hear? Blogging lets me do that, sans the hassle of hiking and being forced to wear heavy-duty boots (sooo not girly!). :P

Sundrenched says What's not to love?
*Mary is on vacation

We would like to give these awards to all the Pinoy expat bloggers found on the Ka-blogs website (special mention to all Saudi-based bloggers like us... favoritism?! hehe). Masyado pong marami ang mga bloggers kaya naman hindi na namin iisa-isahin. We feel that you all deserve these awards because through your blogs... you bring the world closer to home, and the Philippines closer to the whole world.

Good luck and more power!

Watch out for an award the Pink Tarha Girls will be making one of these days, hehehe. May ganong level?! ;P

How To Land in Riyadh Fashionably

It will be a year now since I first came to Riyadh. Gawd, that journey started with a toothache! (Looong story.) It was my first time to travel abroad alone. Thank goodness I'm such a worry wart but I'm not suggesting you worry down to the littlest details too. Just enjoy the journey! (Hah! Kaya ko nang sabihin 'to dahil pinagdaanan ko na eh noh?! Hehe!)

This Life Line is for the newbies and first-timers to Riyadh (because the Pink Tarha Girls were once clueless newbies too, except maybe for Eyecandy who's experience is vice-versa). Some tips are also applicable to those who travel often. We're covering the basics. Oh, when I say "fashionably," I don't mean being dressed to the nines (read: fasyon). I mean being "prepared" and "savvy." This is only the beginning of your journey kaya naman bawal ang ngarag! Kung sa simula pa lang na-stress ka na, pa'no na lang kung andito ka na talaga?!

Are you up for this desert's challenge? You should be! :)

photo from wisebread.com

1. Research, research, research
Days before your flight, you should already know the basic information about Saudi Arabia. If you're a first-time Saudi OFW, you should have listened to your Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) carefully. Do not take it for granted (even though at times, it turns out to be a sales pitch for banks and remittance centers). For first-time Saudi visitors (families of OFWs), research about the country, its customs, weather, and dos and donts. Ask your relatives and friends who are already working here. You can also get information from the Net by going to the POEA forum and sites like VirtualTourist. Visit the blogs of Saudi-based bloggers too (ehermn). Our kabayans are very helpful, just ask nicely. Relax! Breathe in and out and go!

2. Be airport-savvy.
a. Be early.
Be in the airport early. The roads going to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport are jammed (wag kang umasang hindi traffic, walang himala sa lugar na ito!). A good 3-4 hours before your flight provide you ample time to say quick goodbyes to your family (ang iyakan at tagubilin moments ay dapat tapos na sa bahay), check in, and go through immigration. And just in case a problem arises, you'll have enough time to look for a solution (ex. excess baggage).
b. Appear like it's not your first time.
A good tip is this: when you enter the airport, stand still for a couple of minutes and take in your surroundings. Look for your check-in counter with your eyes, not with your whole body walking to and fro (anoveh, hindi ito sequel ng Lost o Amazing Race). Once you locate your counter, approach it calmly and wait for you turn. Stop fidgeting! Wait a couple of minutes more and there's surely someone who'll chat with you. Talk effortlessly. Stop saying "hindi ko nga alam 'to pare eh!" (Dude, I have no idea!)
Wear comfortable clothes. We suggest your usual blouse or t-shirt, a jacket, denim pants and easy to remove shoes.
c. Don't cram your whole house in your luggage.
Know the baggage limit of your airlines and do not go over it! (Kaya nga "limit" eh!) Bring one comfortable hand carry where you can put essential items that you'll be needing inside the plane. Know firsthand the things which you can and cannot carry. For example, avoid bringing liquid stuff in your hand carry. Do not bring wine, pork products (yes, that includes pork and beans!), drugs (they will behead you, swear!) and pornographic materials (leave that FHM magazine behind!). This will give you a hassle-free process in the immigration and customs counters. As for USB devices, laptops, and hard disks, the Saudi immigration officers might or might not check it. It depends on your timing, really. So just to be sure, erase all pornographic files in there!
d. Ask if you must!
We said "airport-savvy" not "know-it-all." Don't be afraid to ask. Even if you already know the basics, we're sure there are some things you'll forget and you'll eventually learn on your own. If you're stumped on something, look for a guard or an airport officer which can answer your questions or direct you.
e. Learn to say "no."
Granted that you are very helpful, avoid people who will ask you to bring their stuff in your luggage, especially when you did not reach the baggage limit. Some Filipinos tend to abuse first-timers. Do not accept them, not because you don't have a heart, but just to be sure you do not implicate yourself in any illegal things. Who knows what's inside those padala and pabitbit?

3. Bring the necessary documents.
Do not forget your passport, ticket, and employment contract (OEC). Have your employee's or relative's contact numbers written down because sometimes, your cellphone can let you down. It will be helpful if you can set your Philippine numbers to its roaming settings so you can contact anyone once you land in the Kingdom (Here's how: Globe/Smart). OFWs do not need to pay travel taxes. OFW dependents like wife and children are exempted or given discounts on the said fees. Oh, and bring extra cash in Saudi rials just in case. A good 100 rials (around P1,200.00) might suffice. Have your money changed in the Philippines.

4. Relax and savor the in-flight moment.
Whether you are in the economy, business, or first class, enjoy the flight by availing the amenities and services available to you. Do not waste the opportunity to try airline food even if most of them suck. Chat with your seatmate but learn to respect his/her privacy. It can really be a hassle when someone wants to use the loo and you're sitted on the middle chair but be patient, you'll probably be excusing yourself too. And girls, do not believe men who say it's their first time too and ask for your phone numbers.

5. Survive your stop-overs.
If you're not flying Saudi Airlines, chances are you'll be having a stop-over in the plane's country (ex. Etihad Airlines [Abu Dhabi, UAE], Gulf Air [Bahrain], Cathay Pacific [Hongkong], Emirates [Dubai, UAE], Qatar Airways [Doha], etc.) so be sure to know the schedules. Stop-overs can last a couple of hours so entertain yourself by going around the airport and chatting with people or whatever your heart fancies. Just don't forget the time of your connecting flight. Some stop-overs do not require you to alight the plane. The plane's just restocking food or refueling.

6. Fill up your disembarkation/embarkation/landing cards.
Do not forget to fill up your D/E cards once the plane landed. Usually, the flight attendants give out this card but if they don't, you can find them near the immigration counter of the airport. You have to give this card to the immigration officer. Prepare your passport and employment contract.

7. Patience, dear, patience.
You probably have heard now that surviving the King Khalid International Airport is your initiation rite as a Riyadh-bound OFW. The immigration counters take time, especially now that they're implementing the finger scan policy. But be thankful that this is already the new millenium because if you heard the horror stories of those who went here years and years ago, you wouldn't want to be here anymore. Hehe. At least they have those powerful scanners already for luggage checks (oh right, don't forget to grab your luggages from the conveyor belt!). Although sometimes, custom officials tend to get carried away and once in a while do their jobs in the traditional way.

When they say, "kalas"... it doesn't mean you have to disassemble your luggage. It means "finished"... you've landed in Riyadh, baby!

8. Oops, not so fast!
After you've cleared the immigration and custom counters, male OFWs and dependents can go ahead and exit the airport gates but if you're a female OFW, (nurses, domestic helpers, etc.), you have to wait at a lounge where they'll be announcing your employers' names. You will not be allowed to go out if not accompanied by your employers. You are allowed to go out the airport and travel to your housings without the abaya for this time only. Most employers bring abayas already but if you do not have one, don't worry about it. Just make sure that once you're already up and about the city, wear one!

For OFWs, your company should provide you with coasters/transpo. Most of the drivers are waiting at the arrival area with signages so better keep your eyes wide open. Now here comes a tricky thing: when the freakin' driver doesn't show up! This is where the contact numbers come really, really handy. If you know the address of your villa/company then take an airport taxi (again, an airport taxi!). Do not be fooled by those ibang lahi (other nationalities) offering taxi rides. Some might scam you.

So there you have it. (We might have skipped a lot of items so other kayabans outthere who are experts on travelling, feel free to add your insights on the comment box.) It's rather a long read but we hope you find comfort in the fact that we were once like you too, beginners. And there are a lot out there who for the first time will start a journey that you yourself will have to know if it's worth it.

Good luck, kabayan!

“Adventure is a path. Real adventure - self-determined, self-motivated, often risky - forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind - and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.”

From Tokyo to Riyadh

I hope you've enjoyed our food trips so far, evident in our recent posts. But then there's more...
If you're in search for great Japanese food, this is a must-visit place: Tokyo Restaurant.

Resto's facade complete with the Japanese lanterns and curtains

Located along Al-Orouba Street, Tokyo Restaurant offers great Japanese food at reasonable prices without sacrificing taste.

A group of six can eat comfortably here

Salad and miso soup for appetizers

Their Bento Box is my favorite. It's a taste of everything in one meal. It consists of mainly the basics of a bento: chicken and fish teriyaki, shrimp, fish and vegetable tempura, sashimi, potato balls (koroke), omelette, tofu (varies depending on which day you come), rice, sauces and pickles. This 'little of everything' goes a long way. It is now a common ritual to take pictures first before eating, which takes a great amount of self-control specially if the food looks this good.

The Bento
What better way to conclude a sumptuous meal but with ice cream! But this is no ordinary ice cream. The flavor? Green Tea. Yes, you read it right. In-house green tea ice cream topped with sweet mung beans. The color is quite enticing in itself. Yum!

I scream for green!

Tea or me? Tea siyempre.
So if you're looking for a Japanese Restaurant that's better than the fast food offerings, visit this place and you'll be satisfied with the good food and great service. Onaka ga suita. Sayonara :)

I Bought a Skirt and a... Sando!

"What the heck is H&M?"

I'm sure you guys (aka men) are as bewildered (with raised eyebrows and crumpled foreheads) as my dad who have to ask that question thrice after I told him I was going to the H&M opening in Sahara Mall with the other Pink Tarha girls. I could have told a countless more familiar reasons like I have to grab a book, have dinner, or meet a friend but I just have to tell the truth! Bummer! Anyway, even though my father was clueless about H&M, he decided it was one of my fancy shmanzy likes that he'll not hear the end of if he insisted I stay put. (May bratinella factor?! Hahah! Joke.)

I share the same feelings with the girls about shopping in H&M but a little more subdued than Shoegarfreeruby's heartpounding "roam-grab-do not think about it-buy" scenario. (But I do understand her feeling. Hehe!) Shoegarfreeruby showed you how she hoarded (adik! hehe!) items on her entry while Eyecandy will surely post her fun H&M entry next so I'm changing directions a little bit to give you what the experience was like for me. In two pictures. (Two lang?! Hehe!)

H&M items in my virtual world. (click photo to read)

We really prepped for the H&M experience by envisioning ourselves through H&M's online dressing room thus the avatars. To tell you the truth, I'm also like my dad, clueless on wth H&M is, before I went here in Saudi and met the PT Girls. I thought it was a rootbeer like A&W, wtf! Hahaha!

I did not bring home lots of stuff from the opening day because I am not a shopaholic. I AM NOT A SHOPAHOLIC. Yes, I just typed that and you read that right. But wait, there's more! I am not a shopaholic... if it's not the sale season! So, I only brought home two clothing items and a few accessories from H&M's opening day!

H&M items in my real world (aka closet and dresser).
(click photo to read)

A skirt and a sando for the Drama Queen?! Haha. I don't know what look I'm going for in this. I just thought 'I don't want to be girly-girly in a skirt so why don't I pair it with a rugged sando so I end up looking like I'm just chillin' out or lounging around'?! Haha!

So what the heck is H&M?
You know what, I really don't care. If it perks me up and make me feel pretty about myself and glad that I'm living in this place, then I don't even want to know what the letters H&M stand for.

PS. Guys please, the mere fact that you are from Mars and women are from Venus, says that we're poles apart in almost all aspects of life, and that includes shopping. So don't raise your eyebrows on us and don't go "what the...?!" just because we find happiness in our purchases while you go all macho in purchasing just the "basic" stuff. By the way, an LCD tv or Nokia N96 is not considered as "basic." :P And yes, we really take time in deciding kaya pwedeng mag-sorry naman?! :P Besides, women admire men who know how to wait. Keep up with us, please?! Hehehe.

I Saw The Signs

Another collection of weird signs and labels around the city:

Guys will surely have a fiesta... but they're selling jewelries you pervs! ;P

Is Freez made from freshly-squeez fruits?

We pity the "I." It probably feels so out of place. Aww.

What do you think will happen to my clothes if i bring them to your landry?

This maybe the fountain of love and happiness! Drink (and pucker) up!

The H&M-Riyadh Experience

Isa ito sa mga kina-reer ng PT girls

Opening sign outside Sahara Mall luring all H&M lovers

The Pink Tarha Girls (minus Mary who’s now in Pinas) met after work for our most awaited day, the H&M opening. We decided to check out the Sahara Branch and arrived around 5:30PM. A little bit late for excited shoppers I know, but we had to wait after office hours (mga working girls naman). We still did our best to be there the earliest we can. The ride to the mall was the most dreaded part, since the roads to Sahara Mall are under renovation. Perfect timing.

Our elevated pulse rates was the result of running towards the store after getting out of the car, plus the excitement of finally making it on the opening of course. We were welcomed by Mickey Mouse (Can you believe? See post below) at the red carpet entrance. A handful of shoppers were already there. Wala pa masyado kaagaw. We got our baskets quick and we were just so ready to explore the store and find the items in our list. This however, was cut short due to prayer time and we had to wait for half an hour before proceeding to our shopping again. After prayer, floods of people came. The store was as we expected it to be. Loads of springy-summery basic tops, shoes and accessories adorned the shelves and racks. We literally wanted to pass out, confused by all the pretty stuff surrounding us. What should we check out first?! If there’s one thing that would stress us really, this was it. Who would have imagined shopping would be this difficult? Haaay.

I also visited the Riyadh Gallery Branch about 3 days after the opening. There you’ll be welcomed by Superman (Filipino version) with mattress foam-like abs. I thought I’ve seen everything, but then there’s always something to lure you at H&M. Reason why we love the shop. Di nauubos ang maganda, LOL.

As promised, here are my H&M loot from both branches:

Cardigans and cool basics

Gingham print shirt

Tunic tops in light grey stripes and dark grey

Red-orange smock
Skirt in blue-black-cream palette

Accessories in black and white

My faves, black gladiator sandals

Bagged all the goodies here
One thing's for sure, we can't get enough of H&M.

Open Sesame!

Wish granted.

Finally, the H&M branches in Riyadh are open!

H&M Sahara Mall branch.

Remember when the PT Girls became excited, agitated, and near delusional (OA, hehe!) when they learned that this famous Swedish clothing store is opening in the city? Well, you haven't heard the end of it as Shoegarfreeruby, Eyecandy, and Sundrenched bathed in the chaos of H&M's opening day. Yep, opening day! Like crazy! (Coverage itoh?!) They'll tell you what's it like to be passionate about a brand (and be trumpled upon by hoards of fanatics) in their upcoming entries. Hehe.

Ladies line display window.

Kids line display window.

Sorry guys, no H&M men's line here.

For Pinays living in countries with H&M branches, share us your fab finds from this fashionista's haven! You'll win our prizes praises. :P

Love Ko 'To!

My friend in the Philippines asked me one day: "How's the McDo there?" I replied, "Er, fine?!" Should I do my research and check how it's holding up in this financial crisis time? Hehe, okay, that's not what he meant! I told him it's the same as the McDonald's he'll find all over the world.

(Disclaimer: This happened before the holy week.) I was inspired by his question that I decided to visit the nearest McDo from our flat. As if I needed much prodding.

This sign beckons and who am I to say 'no'?

In the Philippines, memorize ko by heart ang mantra ng mga gutom: "DIAL 8-MCDO (6236)!" In the former office, we start our day with McD's hash browns, pancakes, and big breakfasts. We were amazed by their delivery service. It rarely fails us. If it fails us, we just walk to the nearby branch. It's a pick between two branches. Alam mo naman ang McDo satin, parang 7 Eleven lang sa dami.

Drive Thru woooh!

In Saudi Arabia, drive thru seems the easiest way to order especially when you're a lady whose parents are not fond of fastfood food and not too keen on eating in family sections.

Tao po?!

I realized the answer I gave to my friend was not enough. While it's true that the menu of McDo Saudi Arabia is pretty much the same as the Philippines, there are offerings present and missing. The Mc Crispy Chicken and the sweet spaghetti are a no-show here. However a choice of S/M/L in fries and drinks is available. And, this one is not available in the Philippines:

McArabia, SR16 for the meal

Arabian bread with chicken patties (shawarma, sosyal version?)

If you're going to invent a McPinas, what will it be? I'm thinking of a huge pandesal with adobo filling! Hehe.

Love ko 'to!
(Seems like I never left Pinas in terms of McDo's packaging!)

I was supposed to have a photo of a double cheeseburger to show the size of burgers here but my brother whose been hating me for stopping him from eating immediately to take pictures of the food had his revenge by eating his burger while I was busy shooting my McArabia! Grrr. Hay, next time na lang ulit.

Btw, the fries are still good, as crispy as ever! ;P
